remodel - o - rama...

Okay - finally some pics to show of some of what we have been up to around here.
I must say this project took longer than we thought and I am so grateful we are close to the finish line.
this room is what we refer to as Dad's room -
his 'mancave' so to speak.

As usual, I forgot to take real before  pictures.
Oh well.
They would not have been too exciting anyway.
This is sort of a before - it shows the red color we painted about 8 years ago.  This used to be an open wall into what used to be the dining room (but is now my craft room).  Jason built this wall and openings for his  stereo equipment.
We were both ready for a change...
We had a really cute little kitten that peed all over this room and it STUNK up the carpet.  Pee Yoo!

This started us on a quest to replace the flooring.  Our first thought was for more carpet, but after pricing it out we decided to search for a good incredibly ridiculously great deal on hardwood flooring AND we were blessed enough to find it!  They had EXACTLY the amount we needed on clearance.  Yee Haw!  I do love a great bargain :)

This is Jason contemplating the work is is about to undertake...

This is me admiring my toes and looking at the nasty carpet we are about to say farewell to!

Picking out paint colors...
Painting all the dark trim white (a task I still need to finish - including baseboards...)
Poor man did end up in urgent care one night and ended up having to have 5 or six stitches in a finger he whacked really hard with a heavy metal hammer :(

Also the nailer was REALLY loud (not to mention the miter saw), so these were his homemade earplugs...
Everybody pitched in at one point or another.
I think we all got a bit tired of it after awhile...
(Sorry Jared, I couldn't resist!)

But, eventually we made it to the end!

Now time to move on to the next the next project...
Right sweetie??

paint colors:
walls - restoration hardware - slate
trim - valspar - kitchen and bath - ultra white

floor:
vintage - amazonia -- brazillian cherry (jatoba)

Kitchen Cabinets, Perfectionism and Procrastination

I keep starting projects... and keep thinking - I should blog about this! -  only to think - No, I'll wait till I'm "done".
Well, I never seem to be "done".  It's that old perfectionism rearing its ugly head that encourages me to procrastinate.  Well, no more.  You may begin seeing quite a few unfinished projects.  We seem to have two speeds around here for getting things done:  slow and slower.
Like all of you, it's not laziness - just life going on.  My hubby is a wonderful remodeler and extremely precise, so I know when things are done, they will be done right.
I seem to have house ADD... I'm not sure what else to call it :).
I start one thing then in the midst of things see something else that needs attention, or something exciting to change, (or can't find the right tool to finish the first project, so jump off to the next project... yada, yada, yada).  I seem to feel the thrill of beginning projects, not finishing them.  Any thoughts on why?
(yes always looking for free therapy:)

Anyways, I have been painting the kitchen cabinets black (tired of trying to keep the white cabinets clean looking) and am very happy with how they are looking.  I stumbled on this idea at the blog "made with love and glue" awhile ago and finally decided to give it a try.  I am a light freak in the kitchen.  Love it bright!
Very inexpensive Christmas lights... very big hole with the drill .  Our cabinets are not what you would call "high quality", so I had no problem giving this a try.  We did buy under cabinet lighting about two years ago - I guess we'll save that for when we remodel the kitchen - someday.

I will be using 1 x2's, instead of 1x1's.  I think they will hide the lights better in our kitchen.  I will post some more on the kitchen SOON.  No, I will not be procrastinating any more :)

Thanks for reading and Enjoy your day!

A foot through the ceiling is worth...

Ah... Remodeling. Can't live with it, can't live without it. At least that seems to be our motto - I wish I could say lately - but really it is pretty much since we've owned a home.
I was in Paducah (Kentucky) helping my Mom one weekend, when I got a call from Jason. He said he had gone through the kitchen ceiling (we are remodeling the upstairs kid's bathroom). I guess one small step for mankind, one giant hole in the ceiling.

I was glad to hear that just his leg went through, not his entire body. Jacob was reportedly at the computer when it happened. Jason heard, "What the heck!?"

I had no idea what to expect when I got home. But, this is what I found...

Actually, it was a bigger hole than that. It was kind of nice to just look up and see the person standing in the hallway upstairs. No intercom necessary :).

We do now have a subfloor up there. Still not a complete kitchen ceiling. I will keep you posted on the progress.
